Nyindrou Advance

AUGUST 2010 UPDATE

Nyindrou Advance is a funding initiative consisting of 5 related parts/sub-projects designed to enable and equip Nyindrou people to meet the following objectives over a three year period from 2010 through 2012:

Contributions should be designated for the Nyindrou Advance by name and one or more of the following 5 categories. See details below.

The following are the main parts composing the Nyindrou Advance:

1. Luke Video Upgrade. FULLY FUNDED AS OF JUNE 2010!!
Upgrades existing worn out equipment - for showing the Nyindrou Gospel of Luke in Manus Island villages.

Video Projector 2,500 lumen
Speaker and speaker case
DVD player with SD slot
Audio mixer with 4 inputs
Amplifier with 4 speaker hookups
Honda EU2000i 2000 watt portable generator
Shipping, Duty and VAT costs to Manus Island, PNG.
Total Cost: $5,172.

2. Computers and Solar Power Upgrades. (STILL NEEDS FUNDING as of Aug 2010)
Replaces the low-power computers and solar chargers that compose five Adapt It Translation Kits (see the old kit here) being used on Manus Island, PNG.

5 Low-power Laptop/Netbook computers (OLPC or Netbook type)
5 Solar Panel Rechargers (folding) 15-20 watt
5 DC to DC Regulators or Step-down Converters.
Shipping, Duty and VAT costs to Manus Island, PNG.
Total Cost $4,944.

3. Printing Supplies. FUNDED FOR 2010 and 2011!!
Provide laser printer printing and supplies for three years - for Scripture drafts and Scripture use materials.

Toner cartridges for laser printer
Replacement laser printer (if needed during the 3 year period)
Shipping, Duty and VAT costs to Manus Island, PNG.
Cost $498 per year for three years.

4. Boat Fuel for Bible Translation. FUNDED FOR 2010!!
Provide outboard motor fuel for national translator Charles Kowak to make regular visits to remote locations around Manus Island as he provides training, supervision and encouragement for those nationals using Adapt It, conduct Scripture Use training, and to show the popular Luke video in the villages of Manus Island.

Fuel for two round trips (29.5 gallons) by boat per month to language areas outside the Nyindrou area where national translators are working in order to provide training, coordination and encouragement
Fuel for one round trip (10.5 gallons) by boat per month to show the Luke video, train pastors in Scripture Use, and conduct HIV/AIDS awareness
Fuel for one round trip (16.8 gallons) by boat every other month to transport of two 200 liter fuel drums to the Nyindrou area
Petrol is sold in 200 liter drums and each drum must be mixed with 4 liters of 2-cycle oil (50 to 1 ratio).
Regular Maintenance for existing boat and outboard motor (gear oil change, spark plug change, propeller replacement).

Cost: $444 per month or $5,328 per year for three years.

Fuel and 2-cycle oil is very expensive. It varies from $7 to $10 per gallon, but boat travel is the only option for transportation since there are no roads or airstrips to the Nyindrou area of Manus Island.

5. Air Fares to PNG for Bill & Lenore Martin. (STILL NEEDS FUNDING as of Aug 2010)
Provide the cost of round trip travel between the USA and PNG. Bill will be providing training in the setup and use of the Adapt It Translation Kits and Lenore will be available as tutor and resource person for children of missionaries serving in PNG

Round trip fares for two between Dallas-Fort Worth and Ukarumpa PNG
Round trip fares for one between Ukarumpa and Manus Island PNG
Total Cost: $8,000.
